Hany Aly, MD, MSHS, FAAP, is the Chairman of the Department of Neonatology at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital. Dr. Aly received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Ain Shams University School of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. He completed his residency training at the Department of Pediatrics at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, from 1991-1994, and a Postdoctoral Fellow in Neonatal- Perinatal Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York from 1994-1997. He worked as attending neonatologist at Children’s National Medical Center and the director of Newborn Services at the George Washington University Hospital. Dr. Aly is currently the Chair of the Department of Neonatology at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Aly is the recipient of the Patient Safety award from the District of Columbia Hospitals Association related to his efforts to control infections during his work as the director of newborn services at the George Washington University Hospital.
Currently, Dr. Aly is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and has extensively published in and reviewed for many journals and written several book chapters. He served a member of several societies and committees, including the Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at NIH as a Special Volunteer and the District of Columbia Child Fatality Review Committee. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Pediatric Society and the Society of pediatric Research.
Dr. Aly had more than 110 peer reviewed papers and 140 conference presentations. He supervised many international PhD theses and coauthored numerous papers with these collaborators. He served as a visiting professor for multiple international universities particularly in Egypt.
