Trauma Specialist, Harvard University

Alexandra Chen (A.B., A.M., Ed.M., Ph.D. Candidate, Harvard University) is a child protection and mental health specialist from Hong Kong working with refugees in conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa, most recently as advisor to UN agencies on the Syria crisis.

Alexandra has spoken every year at the World Economic Forum in Davos since 2011 on behalf of refugee children, and has been interviewed by NPR, Aljazeera, and other international news outlets. She is currently partnering with UN, NGO and government agencies to design early childhood and mental health programmes, and to proved therapy for victims of sexual violence, torture, and trafficking in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Greece. Alexandra is also pursuing her PhD on the neuropsychology of trauma and toxic stress and its impact on refugee children’s cognitive functioning. Alexandra speaks 10 languages, including Chinese, Arabic and French.
